Cape Winelands Film Festival 2010

The 3rd edition of one of South Africa's largest film festivals, The Cape Winelands Film festival, will take place from 17 - 27 March 2010 in Stellenbosch and Cape Town.

Location

Imagine yourself in South Africa’s world famous vacation spot! Stellenbosch Wine Valley, just a 45 minute drive from Cape Town, where locals and visitors alike converge during the wine country's biggest celebration of world cinema.

You are sitting under the stars with film stars in an open air theatre venue, sipping good wine, savoring seasonal South African cuisine, and socializing with new and old friends. Five screening venues.

Dozens of festivities range from open air film screenings to educational talks on film, informal receptions with guest celebrities to over a dozen cooking demos, live entertainment, barrel tastings and fun for all ages. Imagine Stellenbosch where the oak-lined Dorp Street is home to museums and galleries as well as many student cafes and restaurants, all buzzing with film buffs. Do not be surprised if you bump into some other famous movie celebrity.

What sets this festival apart from the many other film festivals worldwide is the distinctive approach to film programming, committed celebrity guests and friendly leisurely pace. You can have plenty of time to enjoy wine country's amenities.

At Stellenbosch, internationally known for our spectacular wines, there are several celestial film nights planned for our festival.

Wine lover or not, a visit to the Cape Winelands Film Festival is an absolute must as the region is one of breathtaking vistas and majestic mountain backdrops while being steeped in rich culture and history. Rolling vineyards and quaint Cape Dutch homesteads await you, as well as award-wining wine farms offering some of the country's best wines.

A festival within a festival

For 10 days they offer a program of timely and fascinating films which evolve organically from the programming process. A host of special events, tributes & symposia are in the works.

While its perspective is clearly global, the Festival is also a showcase and forum for the South African film industry.

Celestial Film Nights

Get ready for an unbelievable experience. Typically festival goers arrive around 6pm to catch a movie in the Spier Amphitheatre or to participate in a food sampling following a cooking demonstration.

There might even be a special barrel tasting from the Award winning Spier Wines! Some nights you might glimpse a celebrity guest mingling informally with festival goers.

Dinner and a Movie

MOYO offers delicious seasonal cuisine, beverages and wine by the glass for sale. Bedouin tents and gazebos are placed throughout the garden and create a setting similar to a nomadic African village. This unexpected delight in the Winelands is set to the humming and ululating voices of Third World Bunfight, a performance company known for pushing the boundaries of African art to the limits.

As one of the entrances into the restaurant, MOYO offers a range of moyo made products from meticulously crafted mosaic table tops to sophisticated African art and craft. moyoRetail not only supports known African artists, but gives local community projects a platform to showcase their talents as well.
