Gypsy Life

Gypsy Life celebrates the music and life of East European gypsies. This Cape Winelands event takes place at the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre on 26 and 27 February 2010.

Through the ages the music and lifestyle of the East European gypsies fascinated numerous artists. Brahms and Dvořák were two of those composers inspired by the gypsies to create some of their most exciting music with exhilarating rhythms and memorable melodies.

Pianists Elna van der Merwe and Zorada Temmingh perform a selection of Hungarian Dances by Brahms, followed by mezzo-soprano Minette du Toit-Pearce singing his Gypsy Songs. Dvořák is represented by the pianists playing a group of his Slavonic Dances and soprano Anina Wassermann performing his Gypsy Songs.
