The Spier Hotel is a 155-bed hotel on the estate just outside Stellenbosch in the heart of the world-renowned Cape Winelands. This Cape Winelands hotel is situated only a 15 minute drive from the beaches of Gordon's Bay and the Strand, while Cape Town is only a 30 minute drive away.
Holidaymakers who want to combine the ultimate winelands holiday with fun in the surf on a white-sanded Cape beach are in for a pleasant surprise. Shoppers who want to remain in the winelands can visit the nearby Somerset Mall, which is host to all the well-known chain stores. Alternatively, central Stellenbosch is only a 7 minute drive away and offers a unique shopping experience combined with picturesque tree-lined streets and historical buildings.
The Spier Hotel comprises thirty-two double-storey buildings grouped around six private courtyards, each with its own pool and entertainment area. It offers guests 155 spacious rooms, including four suites and nine Villa rooms. All are simply, yet elegantly, appointed in traditional country style.
Sustainability at Spier
Spier have focused their efforts on the future of the planet as well as the local community. By supporting local trade, money is kept in the community thereby creating a healthy environment for Spier and it's surrounds to flourish.
Spier will always first buy South African before going beyond the borders to source materials. But even when going local, Spier will always try and source from suppliers within a 5 to 10 kilometre radius (3.10 to 6.21 miles). A craftsman and a small team are now based on site at Spier, recycling paper and turning it into usable products including name badges used at Spier conferences. Toilet paper is made from sugar cane reeds, naturally bleached and no chemicals are used during the manufacturing process.
A 20 litre mineral water dispenser is available at the back of the Cape Winelands conference centre for delegates to refill their bottles instead of taking new plastic bottles. All bottles are recycled, but this still requires energy, whereas refilling a bottle is much more energy efficient.
Goals for the future of Spier include carbon neutrality, a zero waste environment and eradication of poverty by creating 400 jobs through their social and environmental programs.
